The SVA test is required to make sure cars comply with various safety, emmissions and noise standards. If a car does not comply it cannot be driven on UK roads. There are 2 categories of cars:

Cars over 10 years old. These do not need this test. (You can change the £500 on the calculator to '0'. The value '0' must be entered for the calculator to work).

Cars under 10 years old require a test called the ESVA. Cost depends on the model. Passing the tests is easier if there is a 'model report' for the car you are importing. You can read what model reports are available here.
